Background

The client is a premier one-stop fire protection IoT solution provider specializing in the research, development, and installation of fire safety equipment and IoT monitoring systems.

Previously, the client utilized a 19-inch Intel x86-based All-in-One Panel PC as the graphical display unit for their fire alarm and linkage control systems. As the central information management hub, this device is responsible for receiving and displaying critical data, including fire alarms, supervisory signals, faults, and linkage statuses.

Seeking to enhance cost-efficiency while maintaining a high standard of reliability, the client aimed to migrate from the x86 architecture to a more efficient ARM-based platform. Key requirements included preserving the existing Linux/Qt software environment, maintaining the original physical dimensions and user interface, and ensuring compliance with stringent industry safety certifications.

Solution

To meet these requirements, Vantron delivered a customized 19-inch industrial All-in-One Panel PC based on a high-performance ARM platform.

1. Seamless Architecture Migration: By leveraging a multi-core ARM processor, the solution provides robust computing power with significantly lower energy consumption, facilitating a smooth transition from the previous x86 setup.
2. Optimized Real-time Communication: The system drivers were enhanced with advanced FIFO software mechanisms to ensure industry-leading real-time performance and minimal jitter for CAN bus communication, which is critical for rapid emergency response.
3. Hardware Continuity: The solution utilizes a 19-inch industrial-grade square screen integrated into a secure, lockable sheet-metal chassis. It supports multiple installations, including cabinet, console, wall-mount, and desktop, ensuring the rollout requires no changes to user habits.
4. Industrial Reliability and Certified Security: Designed for 24/7 operation, the device features low power consumption, rich I/O interfaces, and high stability, meeting the increasing demands for automation and intelligence in modern fire safety.
5. Open OS Environment: Pre-installed with a stable Linux distribution, ensuring full compatibility with existing Qt-based applications.

Benefits

The successful implementation of this project enabled the client to achieve a seamless migration from x86 to an ARM-based architecture with significantly optimized unit production cost, resulting in considerable annual operational savings. Furthermore, by transitioning to a modern, ARM-based core, the client has successfully extended the product lifecycle and mitigated supply chain risks, ensuring a long-term, stable presence in the fire safety market.
