New Products | Flexible Edge Connectivity: Vantron Introduces the A2 Gateways and R2 5G RedCap Router
2026/09/24
Industrial and commercial IoT deployments rarely depend on a single communication method. Field devices may use serial connections or Ethernet, local equipment may connect over Wi-Fi, and remote sites often require cellular or long-range wireless backhaul. The challenge is to support the right combination of networks without adding unnecessary hardware cost and system complexity.
Vantron Technology introduces two new communication products for connected edge deployments: the configurable A2 Series Edge Computing Gateways and the cost-effective R2 5G Industrial Router. Built on a common low-power dual-core Arm Cortex-A53 platform, the two products address different deployment needs—from multi-network field integration to streamlined 5G RedCap routing.

A2 Series Modular Edge Gateways for Multi-Network IoT Deployments
The A2 Series is designed as a configurable edge access platform for industrial automation, smart buildings, cold-chain logistics, and other distributed IoT systems. Native Wi-Fi 6 and dual Gigabit Ethernet are combined with optional cellular, GNSS, Wi-Fi HaLow, and serial configurations, allowing customers to select connectivity based on the actual field environment.
1. Modular Wireless Connectivity: In addition to dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, the A2 Series can be configured with 4G LTE or 5G RedCap, multi-constellation GNSS, and sub-1 GHz Wi-Fi HaLow. This modular approach supports both conventional local networking and longer-range, lower-power IoT connections without forcing every deployment into the same hardware configuration.
2. Flexible Field Device Integration: Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports provide separate WAN and LAN connections, while a USB 2.0 host port and optional isolated RS232 and RS485 interfaces support local equipment, sensors, meters, controllers, and legacy serial devices.
3. Wide-Area Coverage and Network Adaptability: Wi-Fi operation supports access point, station, and mesh modes, while optional Wi-Fi HaLow adds extended-range connectivity for distributed endpoints. Cellular and GNSS options further enable remote backhaul and location-aware deployments in sites where wired infrastructure is limited.
4. Industrial Design for Continuous Edge Operation: The A2 Series supports a 9–40 V DC input, hardware watchdog, DIN-rail or wall mounting, and fanless heat dissipation. With an IP40 sheet-metal enclosure and an operating range of -20°C to +70°C, it is built for continuous use in commercial and industrial environments.

R2 5G RedCap Industrial Router for Cost-Efficient Remote Connectivity
The R2 is a compact, entry-level industrial router designed for applications that need reliable cellular connectivity without the cost and complexity of a full-featured 5G broadband platform. It combines 5G RedCap, Wi-Fi 6, dual Gigabit Ethernet, GNSS, and essential routing and security functions in a fanless enclosure.
1. Purpose-Built 5G RedCap Connectivity: Standard 5G RedCap support provides an efficient cellular option for industrial IoT applications with moderate bandwidth requirements. It is well suited to remote monitoring, distributed assets, telemetry, smart energy equipment, and other connected systems that prioritize coverage, power efficiency, and deployment cost.
2. Practical Local Networking: One Gigabit WAN port and one Gigabit LAN port support wired network separation, while 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 6 can operate in access point or station mode. Integrated GNSS supports GPS, BDS, GLONASS, and Galileo for location-aware applications.
3. Essential Routing, Security, and Diagnostics: The R2 supports static routing, NAT, port forwarding, Layer 3 access control, IPsec VPN, QoS traffic limiting, and ICMP, TCP, or HTTP link probing. These functions provide the basic network control and health checking needed for unattended field deployments.
4. Designed for Scalable Fleet Deployment: Hardware is reserved for an eSIM upgrade, while optional Vantron BlueSphere GWM support enables remote monitoring and management. A hardware watchdog, wide 9–40 V DC input, reverse-polarity and over-current protection, and an operating range of -20°C to +60°C help maintain stable operation across distributed device fleets.
Together, the A2 Series and R2 give solution providers a clearer choice at the network edge. The A2 Series prioritizes configurable multi-network integration for varied field environments, while the R2 provides a streamlined 5G RedCap routing platform for cost-sensitive remote connectivity.
